Before leaving Isunga Lodge today I got out my drone and tried to take some footage around this place. It truly has an awesome location and I wanted to try and catch that if possible in a few sweeping shots around the gardens and terrace. I’ve only had this thing for about a year now, but I’m still getting used to flying the damn thing and today unfortunately was my first crash!! Although the DJI Spark does have a forward sensor to stop it flying into anything it doesn’t have anything to the side or back and today I misjudged where the tree were and it flew straight into it sideways. Thankfully, in some respects anyway, it didn’t stick in the top of the tree, rather fell all the way down through the branches. Resilient little thing it is too baring in mind it was quite a fall it didn’t show much damage and give it it’s due it kept recording as it gracefully smashed it’s way through the branches…..

Any hoo, I eventually got a few half decent shots and passed them on to the owners in case they wanted to use any of it for their own media stuff.

Having said goodbye to them and the dogs we packed up the Land Cruiser and headed off towards Queen Elizabeth National Park. It was quite a drive today to but made a lot easier by the fact the scenery in this southern area of Uganda is so beautiful. It’s very volcanic down this part but still very lush which makes for very dramatic landscapes and beautiful lake filled craters everywhere, hence the name the Crater Lakes area.

Having past over the equator we made it to the national park mid afternoon and just before entering the park we found a herd of Ankole cows being herded by a local farmer. In the park itself we didn’t exactly have animals throwing themselves at us, but we’re well aware that with game drives it’s all about luck. To just sit tight and just wait to see what does happen.

And as fate would have it, just as we thought we might not see anything in particular our guide Ronnie with his seemingly laser-vision spots a pride of lions IN a cactus tree!! Not exactly every day you see that. It was really quite amazing!

As darkness started to fall we made our way to our new lodge, right on the border of the park called the Park View Safari Lodge. The place was a bit too big for our liking ie too many rooms/tourists, but you know what, it was totally ok really. And our room, a big rondavel up on high stilts was pretty airy and had lots of room.

After a quick freshen up we had the evening meal with Ronnie then headed to the upstairs bar while we watched a tropical rain storm pass through, with thunder and lightning all around us.

Quite a day.
